We are proposing that we try a new site for our 2010 Messier Marathon. The proposed site is Rancho Ceilo (Ranch of the Sky), the property of Allan Guthmiller and Bill Vorce located at 26102 N Pear Ave in Meadview, AZ. This is a 5 acre parcel of land located at the corner of Pear Ave and Donnie Road in the small community of Lake Mead City, just south of Meadview. Elevation is 4,100 feet and it provides good horizons all around. The light dome from Vegas only rises 10 degrees above the horizon and the Dark Sky Finder indicates that the site is one step darker than Temple Bar and only one step from being the darkest. Cellular service is available at the observation site (at least AT&T). See map of Meadview area. Rancho Cielo has room for some RV's (dry camping) and tents. Concrete Pad One of the observing areas Meadview Accommodations The small community of Meadview, AZ provides some of the basic accommodations for those participating in the 2010 Messier Marathon. The Meadview Motel is only about 8 miles away and is co-located with Ken's Pizza +. They even have Armadillo Eggs on the menu (see Menu Pg 1-2 and Pg 3). Room rates are $55.00 per night plus tax.
